I need to replace the cable on my 71 Roadsters front brake. Venhill lists a standard cable with/(for?) the front brake light switch, and a heavy duty cable with no mention of the switch. Problem is both pictures on the web site look the same so I'm not sure what I'm getting and what will work. Also, if the heavy cable is incompatable with the brake light switch has anyone devised an alternate switch up at the lever?

Venhill would use the same gauge cable irrespective you a cable with an integral light switch or not. Have you checked out the AN website, they should be a picture.

According to their website the regular cable is 2mm wire and 7mm housing while the HD cable is 3mm wire and 8mm housing.

Hi Mike,

I have just fitted the Heavy Duty cable with switch to my 1971 Roadster.

Venhill Part No. and description is N01-1-104ST4 - US bar brake cable for twin leading shoe with switch, heavy duty outer

I am not sure if this is listed on their website yet but I got the details from Venhill Direct, the cable is very well made and fits perfectly, the price was £27.00 here in the UK.

They also do the same cable with a standard outer for £24.98

There are a couple of pictures on my rebuild thread which show the cable.

I hope this helps.

Cheers, Mark

Call the guy at Venhill US and if he doesn't answer leave a message...He will get back to you and is very helpful with selecting a cable...He actually helped me when I needed a cable they normally didn't stock..

Bit of a tangent, but some folks recommend not using the front cable with the switch in it because they say it makes the front brake mushy.

That front brake switch sure does make it feel spongy. Just look inside that thing. I've thought many times about some alternative way to switch the brake light.

I was actually looking for something that didn't detract from the original look. Mine looks pretty much like it was in 70 except for the new seals and rebuilt parts and paint. It actually looks pretty faithful, as I recall it.
