For sale.

Yes but Harley has a chain of repair centers, one per county on the east coast. I use them routinely!!! Few Harley riders put enough miles on their bikes to ever need the repair centers!!!!

Hence why I said “and well supported”…

I would imagine that the average Harley has done more miles than the average 961…

That's the problem Harley is having, their bikes last.
They are competing with themselves as the Boomers age out and sell off perfectly good 10 or 15 year old Harleys that have run 80,000 miles and can easily run another 80,000 .

Enjoyed reading about the 'light' Norton outhandling the 'heavy' Triumph.
Where does this stuff come from? I guess Stuart Garner and his 412 lb claim for a bike that is 500+

Ok perhaps that wasn’t a good example to use, but my point was that there are still a lot of folks out there with a fond affection for Norton, look at the comments on that auction and you’ll see. (And actually the Enfields do have Brembos;))
None of them have Brembos that I’ve seen. But I do get your point. The problem is, TVS doesn’t care about the 961. And on top of that they don’t have the rights to the 961 engine anymore. Thanks Garner.

Am I nuts (granted, a very likely possibility), or couldn't TVS just take the 961 motor, bore it out 1mm, make it the Norton 983, and produce it for a new Commando 983?
They would be observing the agreement Garner made with Jinlang for them to own the rights to the 961.
Now, of course TVS would want to re-engineer components that were failure prone, but in spite of Garner's sell out to Jinlang, Commando production could resume if TVS desired to do so with a "new" 983 motor.
The question is, would TVS want to do this?

Also, it would be sweet pay back for all the intellectual property that Chinese companies have stolen from the West.

They are fitted with BYBRE which is an abbreviation of “By Brembo” you can see all thier brands here..

I said it an earlier post, If TVS has the customer service and the lack of repairs that my two Royal Enfield's do, I'll
but a new Norton! Neither have been back for repair, changing exhaust doesn't void warranty and the fuel injection compensates no down load needed! Yes they do have some raw aluminum just keep it clean.

Yes I know. But it’s still not a Brembo Nor are they Ohlins. Just like a Toyota isn’t a Lexus or a Chrysler a Mercedes’ Benz. Thank god.

Here’s the thing.
If more people wanted a 961 Norton, they all had the opportunity to buy one years ago. This is becoming the complainant department just like the Harley cry babies that bitched about the new sportster S taking over the old sportster. If you wanted a 2020 or older sportster you had decades to get one. Stop crying about what was and is now gone. The show is over friends. Onto the next chapter.

We know Garner used all kinds of fake "name brand" stuff on the 961, so who knows what you have on there.
The way those fork clamps bust through looks pretty dubious. Could be Ohrins and Blembos.
I once purchased some new Rockport shoes on eBay. Looked just like the real ones, one quarter the price and labelled Rockpork!

I’m gonna say the brembos and ohlins are the real deal. The fork clamps / yolks breaking are from over torquing. Could also be from under torque. If you ever tightened a multi bolted clamp you’ll know once you tighten one the next one that you tighten loosens the first one.

I don’t think thats quite the thing.

The thing being put forward in this chat is that there would be a large market for a well sorted and well supported 961.

Lets not kid ourselves so soon after the event, the ones on offer previously were neither of those things !

Many years ago people said “if the Japanese made a Gold Star or Venom I’d buy one.” So Honda made the GB500, an electric start 500 that didn’t leak oil, had decent brakes etc. Guess what? Nobody bought it, last ones were discounted to sell them. Now a cult classic with increasing prices.

Had they sold them in the U.K., I think they would have sold bucketloads. Why they didn’t has always mystified me. Honda sold plenty of XBR’s.

They were for sale in the UK. I saw one in Bill Heads at Preston with a good discount but Honda buyers wanted twins and fours.

As far as I know they were never an official Honda import. Available only in Japan initially as 400cc and later became a 500, then exported to the U.S. So what you saw was probably a grey import. There was a huge industry doing that a few years ago.

Anyone here?
