For sale section

I have noticed more and more people are using this Commando topics page as a for sale notice board. I know that Jerry tried a dedicated 'for sale' section some time back without much success, but might now be the right time to retry a dedicated sale or swap section?

Perhaps anybody interested in a sale or swap could put SALE: or SWAP: first in the subject line. If there aren't too many posts, Jerry can leave things as they are. If there seems to be enough traffic to warrant adding a forum, I'm sure he would.

As Dave stated, it was tried before. No need for Jerry to set it up again unless demand warrants.

Sorry, I posted my project for sale here recently. Reading this, I feel a bit bad about adding unwanted clutter. Can I delete the thread? it hasn't gotten any replies.

In the past, I liked reading posts about parts for sale or auctions on ebay. If I end up parting it out, do you think it's useful to post here, or just more clutter?

cheers,
Noah

Noah,

There's no real problem at the moment with members who occasionally use the forum to sell/swap Norton related items.
As dave M said, Jerry did try adding a "For Sale" section for about six months some while ago, but nobody actually used it.

Just a suggestion;

The "Anything else Motorcycle Related" section could be changed to include ads., so would become the "For Sale, and Anything else Motorcycle Related" section? As it's somewhat under-used as it is, which may encourage more people to use that part of the forum, rather than adding a completely separate 'For Sale' section that on average, may only be used a couple of times each month?

L.A.B. I like your idea of re-naming that section.

I hope I have not been abusive of posting bikes & projects for sale, I have prefaced the thread titles properly, and always Norton Commando related (the "several projects & bikes" post had 2 Commando projects).

I usually just lurk on the forum, but my two cents here... I don't mind at all the occasional posts from community members advertising sales, especially as it is not uncommon for the items to be offered for a bit of a discount over what could be had at E-Bay, etc. Enthusiasts helping enthusiasts... would definitely be nasty if it became another way of generating E-bay auction traffic, but I haven't witnessed any gross violations here (although perhaps the moderators delete those too quick for me to notice)...

No, not one...not that I'm aware of, perhaps Jerry has, I don't know.

And I'm sure if Jerry thought otherwise about posting ads he would have let us know about it? In any case, this is a reasonably relaxed and easy going forum, with very few rules and regulations, (I don't think anyone has even needed to be warned about their conduct?) and it's a credit to our members that we do not seem to need very many rules here?

Perhaps there's just a higher proportion of sensible and level-headed people amongst Norton owners?.....

.....OK....only joking!
