Hi all,
I am currently at work and am just wondering if anyone would be able to tell me what the dimensions are for the foot pegs of a 850 Commando MkII. I forgot to bring mine in with me today!!!
I broke mine on the weekend, and have found some 316L Stainless steel pipe 12.7mm dia that I could get the guys here to fab a couple for me today.
I also need the thread pitch, dia and length.
I will get a welder to tig weld the required thread to the pipe.

Many thanks.

Brewer.

Overall length of my MkI peg is 4-7/8" - but the smooth part of the shaft is 9/16" (14mm) not 1/2" (12.7mm). The last 1-1/2 " is turned down and threaded, allowing the smooth part of the shaft to stop against chrome support, with the nut on the back side cinching it up.

Mine measure 5'' over all 9/16'' diameter 7/16'' unf X 1 1/4'' threaded end portion, I made mine out of a 9/16 bolt and turned the end down for the threaded portion.I also put the lock nut on the out side not the inside, it gives you more clearance between your covers.

Splatt, are you sure that is a good idea. With the nut on the inside, it should be self tightening. On the outside, if it gets loose at all, it sould come right off. Fun riding with no peg.

When I was assembling my Norton, I was surprised at how little clearance there was for a lot of things. Front tire at fender stays, rear tire at chain, chain at chain guard, chain between primary and tranny, kickstart to muffler, etc.

I went to my Norton guy and mentioned this, especially how there's maybe 1/4" clearance on the front tire. He said, "How much clearance do you need?"

The only time clearance would be an issue with the footpegs would be if you laid the bike down. Don't do that!

BTW, covers on both sides of my bike had the clear mark of the peg end hitting the cover at some point. I was able to polish out most of the marks.

Works well for me, mine won't actualy fit on the inside due to shortened footrest hangers, but hasn't come loose yet and I don't think it will  I hope, but then I could just be a total cowboy

I've been thinking of changing my stock footpegs to some almost an inch longer, but I've been worried about clearance... so you're saying there's no chance of scraping pegs in normal riding? Anyone think they would be too long, or if they'd be safe?

Pelican, Tape a pipe cleaner or a piece of wire on each of your pegs. Make it say 3" out. Go out and ride like you always do, if it hits, bend it back and cut off about a half inch.
When nothing hits, subtract an extra inch or so and that is your safe measurement.

Pelican, have you ever riden a trident, you dont really notice the thick rubber foot rest rubbing on the road until you get home and realise half the rubbers missing.

When I said lay it down, I meant all the way, as in knocking the bike over!

I've never rubbed my pegs - I rarely go more than 7/10ths on the bike. I figure its too old to traumatize with a lowside.

The pegs on my 750 Roadster have angled flats ground on the bottom of the rubber and there is a slight bend in both pegs. And this bike has never been down! The sidestand usually scrapes first, but the pegs will touch, especially if the road has any kind of crown to it.

Like Bill T, I don't ride that aggressive anymore, but I still touch them down occasionally. I would think that and extra inch on each side might be alot.

I remember looking at a set of aftermarket folding pegs that looked like they were about an inch longer. Perhaps that would be a good solution? Mount them angled rearward slightly so if they do touch down they will begin to fold.
