You might be able to get it running WITHOUT the battery if the big blue 2MC capacitor still holds a charge and you put a decent battery charger on it, AFTER cleaning the carbs, flushing the gas tank, changing the oil, and maybe popping in a fresh set of plugs. Total cost under $20, and VERY likely possible to do unless the engine is mechanically damaged in some way.
Doing some major tune-up work / maintenance on it and buying a set of tires and a battery could be at a better place for about $300.
Where you go from there could be anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000, and take anywhere from a week to a year to several years.
Several people have inquired as to your mechanical skills; the only thing I can assume from your comment regarding dreaming when you bought it, is that you AREN'T up to the task of doing a refurb or restoration project. So, the $1,000 to $10,000 range would necessarily tend higher rather than lower.
It's your bike, you can do what you want with it. If you bought it as an investment, your best return would be in parts sales. If you care at all about the values associated with preserving classic Brit bike / motorcycle history, you'll at least sell the engine and frame together.
