I sprained my right knee over the summer and as a result sold my '73 850 on to a new owner. I picked up a '76 GL1000 GoldWing in really good condition to be able to ride without having to kickstart. I've joined a couple of GoldWing forums for advice & knowledge. Over on one of the forums, a Dutch owner of a '75 GL1000 recently restored it, chronicled on this link. Admittedly, the bike was in pretty good condition when he started, though I believe he said it had been under cover for 32 years. And only down in the middle of the post does he reveal that he's doing this at age 71. I thought that some of the folks over here might appreciate the effort.

Looks a fantastic bike, probably one of the most pristine 'Wing on the planet.
How do you get on with the Honda front brake calipers on modern road conditions :?:

I kinda got a little misty when I saw the Lotus; my late friend Mike had one exactly like it (but white). His dimple-brained widow sold it for crack money (along with his porsche, ducati round case and other gems, for pennies on the dollar).

Bernhard - I'm pretty new to the bike. It was fully dressed when I got it, I've pulled off the rear fittings as I was replacing the tires. I'll probably leave them off. But it still does have the Windjammer III fairing up front and I've grown awfully fond of it. Not sure how much weight it adds. I've read up on all the mods to improve the front brakes. I had planned on derusting the tank and doing MC and caliper overhauls this winter, I may build some upgrades into those plans. Then again I did a stock rebuild on the Norton 850 front brake and really didn't have any issue with its performance. But after not riding for 30 years and picking it back up at age 59, I'm not riding nearly as hard these past three years as most people on this forum.
GPZ - Yikes, what a pity! Back in the day I had a Jensen Healey. My girlfriend at the time was attending a private school in NJ and they had a fundraising raffle, she won. Her father grumped around muttering about having to pay taxes on it... Beautiful jet black convertible, built prior to the ugly bumpers going on. She wound up moving to St. Thomas and I visited her down there. She said "Tell my mother to sell it to you, she'll be glad to get rid of it!" I bring that up because it had a 2 liter 16-valve Lotus engine in it.
