I will think about passing it on , but I was actually thinking of keeping it on the bike somewhere .
its been there for 40 years or so now .
these days you can put your legal stash in it .

Aye-aye, nudge-nudge, wink- wink!

Have we determined if the zippo is magnetic ? Could have been tossed in to scavenge ferrous bits.
Whatever the reason, it certainly has done a good job preserving the bike these 40 years.

Someone should approach Zippo to let them know they've missed a great opportunity here.

Found an 8" Crescent wrench in the oil pan of a small block Chevy. Had apparently been there for many years with no problem. It was well preserved;)

I had a Grandad & still have an uncle named Peter....both in England and both smokers. So, unless someone has a better back story, I'm going with "It was put in there by my relative before it left the UK". PM me for an address to send it back home....

Silver coatings is usally over a cheaper ferrous metal, and displays magnetic properties, whereas silver is not magnetic.
Hopefully is is solid silver as that metal is going through roof recently on the stockmarket.

It is 100% plated brass, you can clearly see where the plating has rubbed off, exposing the brass beneath. This is common with ALL zippos of the era.

A local old-time auto repair garage had just finished putting new mains and rod bearings (babbit) in an old straight 6 and had the 86-year-old shop helper put the pan back on. When they fired it up, it made a loud hammering noise that made the mechanic think he had missed something or put the wrong bearings in. He slid under and pulled the pan and found a large ballpeen hammer the old guy dropped in there.

How can you reach 86 without learning that a sump is a bad place to set a hammer down in.

Things start lurching into reverse when you reach a certain age :-( Don't ask me how I know...
(This 64 year old came home covered in mud today after falling off his pushbike. How embarrassing explaining that one!)

I wouldn't be surprised if the Norton was riding with these guys. "High" Rider of course.

It was actually true back in the day that pot lead to harder drugs. It's because in order to get it you had to find a drug dealer! And they had all sorts of stuff that sounded like a good idea!
