Dunstall 850 overhaul

I recall reading somewhere that you should pull the front iso thru-bolt and then tweak the upper suspension spring till the internal iso tube lines up nicely with the frame mounting holes. That way, the SPRING is bearing the weight of the engine, not the iso resting on the thru-bolt. Looking real nice!

that will happen shortly,

the wiring is well under way, i've cobbled up some temporary throttle cables, ( have a venhill kit to make a new once we are running,) and am now at a point where i can do the wiring to the fuse panel and relays.

based on a recent post here about routing the clutch cable, i relocated it to run alongside the spinetube and discover that the tunnel under the dunstall tank is to tight and won't sit down with that routing.

has anyone run into that problem and what was your solution?

progress on the seat; found a used interstate eat, will cut it short (by 2" at the front end) to fit with the dunstall tank.

the pan has been blasted and epoxy painted, and is of to the upholstery shop for a new cover. i really wanted a Texavina seat ( https://texavina.com/norton-commando-interstate-750-850-low-profile-dual-passenger-seat-sku-l1154/) but they just didnt understand the end game and were pricey.

Some genuine Birmingham Motor Works brakes, very nice :)

so slow progress covid19, has shut downmost of the supply of exhaust pipe manufacture in the UK, we can't get any in Canada, i found one set on the right coast, but when they arrived they didnot fit, they went back, I will not support less than A1 fabrication and assembly. My customers expected me to provide the absolute top performance, so when i spend my money i expect the same.

in this case MR evil-bay stepped in and delivered. one used set, unmolested with no cracks or repair welds, see below first side mounted

even though they are made by Emgo, it has to have the long dong Dunstall look-alike mufflers. can't wait to here the roar!

On that note... Anyone know how those Shinko tires stand up?... I know this is on a tangent.

i had one on the rear (18") of the 73 850 which i sold, i liked it a lot more than the tt100. the goal is to burn off the tt100, and get a nice shinko 712 for the rear ( likely have rerim to 18" as well)

i put fuel in it and i was running on the third kick. still screwing around to get a stable idle. we are not detecting any erroneous clanking noise , so at this point i'm satisfied that the decision not to strip it down to check for delaminated lifters was ok. video to follow.

Mine is so noisy that I've listened since I've had it only for new and unusual racket coming from the motor. To me only clanks and bangs followed by silence and a smoking pile of rubble would be proof of failure unless I tore it down to see what all the fuss is about down there.
