I have a lead on some Dunstal parts.

Original seat, tank, fairing and aluminum front fender.

Does anyone have any idea what this package would be worth.

I just want the fairing, but he won’t break it up.

Pretty cool.

Thoughts?

Depends on how much value you place on the 'mystique' of the Dunstall logo.

Figure that glass tank will have to be re-lined at the very least, that's barring any other issues. The fairing, as long as there's no major repair required, and the screen is undamaged is a trick part, that seat will have to be re-covered but not a big deal. I'd offer no more than $500 for the lot. I sold an original Dunstall glass tank just like that years ago for $300 Cdn + and a clapped out Suzuki 4LS hub.

I only really want the fairing but I’d buy the whole thing and sell the seat and tank.

GFTP reproduces those fairings, and there's a company in florida who make the windscreens. I don't know if you can find the instrument cup tin reproduced anywhere if that part of the application is necessary to use such a small fairing. I have a later model dunstall fairing and I just kept my normal instrument holders and they swing fine inside the bigger fairing. You can buy a newer style adjustable headstock mount bracket, but I don't know how well they work with your chosen other parts. Once you start mixing parts, you are out there on your own... Ask me how I know....

When I undertook my fairing application, I assembled what I had and then decided what needed to change to put the fairing where I wanted it. I ended up cutting the bracket up which looked like a "unicorn" and turned it into a "forked pair" so I could see the ammeter in my headlight between the arms of my bracket. I also changed the angle of the bracket arms to move the fairing forward 1", and made the bracket lower with longer threaded rod mounting points so I could lower it later, if I wanted to do that, without having to cut the bracket up again...

Essentially, If you can buy a complete system that bolts on and takes care of all the headaches, you might be better off, but it's hard to know if you'll be happy with the result of that bolt on system, or you'll be in the same boat as I was, remaking the parts which you have acquired, into the configuration that you want...

You can price out all the different components and get an idea what it would cost to go with all new reproduced parts, but it won't be cheap.

I appreciate the advice. I’m pretty far down the road with my bike and design. I’ve changed the paint color on this so many times I forget what I originally wanted.

I’m planning on painting this white like the Norman racers. The fairing is a little flimsy because it’s a repop, I assumed an original would be much stronger

So it’s not the Dunstall cache that I’m looking for. I just want an original fairing because I bet they were much better made.

This whole package is $950. I think I’ll keep what I got and buy a stronger bracket from AN

Wow, your bike is looking great... Red is a statement color, and it looks "WOW"

The stock dunstall support for the lower "wings" of the fairing suck to put it bluntly. I made a homemade support that bolts to the frame downtubes and has arms that reach out and up to support the fairing. You could do a "chin up" on my fairing. It's that solid... I have to see if I have a picture of it to link here for you. I know I've posted it before... I have the full size drawing sketched on a piece of 1/4" plywood. No one has asked me for it so I haven't persued posting the specifications. I used vibration dampening "U" bolts to mount the base of the bracket to the frame, and it has welded square tube that reaches out and supports the "wings" of the fairing....

Here it is... god my bike is always dirty...

If you buy the package deal I might be interested in the seat.....but I’m cheap and that seat is ripped up.

Those look sturdy. I have the side mounts, just haven’t installed them yet.

I’m cheap too. Probably won’t by the package. It’s too expensive.

Value of Dunstall parts depends on which side you are on.
If you are buying, they are the Holy Grail of Norton parts.
If you are selling, they are rubbish, but people are willing help clear your garage of them for next to nothing.....

100%!

The upper and lower wings need to be supported, otherwise you'll get buzzing and flapping at speed. My lower supports come off the front tank mounts and reach nearly to end of the lower wings

Besides the branding - dunsTall (note the capital T) - the meter pan on original dunsTall fairings is a separate part from the actual fairing.

Most of te Dunstall stuff was (rather) well designed, but let down by poor production quality.

Exactly my experience.

$950 you say eh...? I’m thinking the seller accidentally added a ‘0’...

Ok, seriously, most of this stuff is available new, it’ll be better than that old stuff was when new, and probably cheaper than that asking price too.

But that old stuff ain’t new... it’s 50 ish years old. It simply wasn‘t ever intended to last that long. The gel coat cracks, the fibres de-laminate, etc. Old glass tanks can be a nightmare with tiny pin holes / porosity allowing fumes to lift paint etc. And that before you start talking about ethonol.

I would forget about it and carry on...

Add fiberglass to inside of fairing to strengthen , layer might work. Cheaper than buying original and you can get on with it.

Absolutely agree with everyone. I’ll add some fiberglass and strengthen what I have.

Thanks for not allowing me to go down a road I should stay away from. Great advice.

Save your $$ for more spray paint!!:D
Or have you settled on white?

I dragged a Dunstall tank round the auto jumbles. Off of a bike " by god it was ugly" didn't help me sell it! I put it on a frame at the next one & sold it for 25 notes. It looked marginally less ugly but I couldn't get a good price for it. Glad to see the back of it. Seat was ugly as well. Fairing was nice & the dash/ inner was quality.
I gave! that to my friend with a Dunstall built & registred 650ss. Dommie looked better than a Commando but the bikes were very much of their period.
Yours looks great. Love a bit of colour.
