Earlier bikes, unfortunately it seems that the 530xring won't necessarily fit, although one member did fit one on an early 850 without problems.

I must say that sprocket life was a concern when I first started using 5/8" x 1/4" (520) size, but so far doesn't seem to be a problem. Watch this space as they say, whoever they are.
 
When Norton bumped the 30+- hp 600cc 99 up to the 50 hp 650 ss they left the sprockets at 1/4". A couple of years later, after customer complaints about rapid sprocket wear, they switched to 3/8" sprockets.

If you only do low to moderate mileage it might not matter.

I went with the Italian Regina chain, 19mm outside pin measure.
I may have to change it more often, bit no more clearance issues for me.

A few years ago I was having trouble with Renold Synergy chain. Tight links vibes through the bars etc. I asked Andy Chain who was then a member of this site, for his advice he told me Renold had stopped making motorcycle chain. I contacted Renold and they confirmed what Andy had said. They also told me in a no uncertain tone, Synergy chain is not recommended for motorcycle use period. I bought a IWIS chain from Andy problem solved.

That wasn't quite what I meant. :)

Andy didn't mention anything in his final posts about passing the business over to his son, only that it was "for sale".

Their surnames are also not the same (yes, yes, I know that's not absolute proof either). ;)
