Re: differences from Atlas, P11, and early Commando timing c

I believe that the oil gallery that we are discussing in the commando's go's to the return line [crankcase side] as previously stated my February 69 had a threaded plug in this gallery and am fairly sure that the cover in the top picture was the one that came fitted to the fastback, it has a gallery drilled at approx. 12 o'clock that appears to allow the pressure relief valve to vent into the timing chest, possibly this was the earlier method?.

I have previously owned 2 Atlas and a P11 Ranger and currently own a 650SS and these all had the tacho drive mounted vertical though these were all later models 66-69
though I have seen photo's of a Manxman with the drive on an angle, so possibly this may have been used in the early 60's?

If you look closely you can see the gallery in the top photo, in the bottom photo there is a mould mark in a similar location which is undrilled as previously stated possible model change.

Yes.
The top timing cover could be a 650 Mercury or a very early Fastback as you well said.
I have seen a lot af Atlas with diagonal tacho drive fixing.
Sorry, i dont know more of this.
Ciao.

Re: differences from Atlas, P11, and early Commando timing c

Possm: There are a lot if things to look at in your two photos, and knowing exactly which one you refer to as the "gallery" is not clear to me. I am confused with one reference to "3 PM" and then later another reference to 12 O'clock. If you could figure out a way to add arrows to your photos it would help immensely.

Thanks

Re: differences from Atlas, P11, and early Commando timing c

AT the Bottom Go To the TOP , theres ONE to the Right before TWO .

At the Top go to the Bottom , theres Two to the Right , Before Two .

   8) :D Er , youll see theyre not quite the same . THAT is WHERE you have to WATCH for HOLES . The Oil Pressure Relief Valve Area .

The Gasket should MATCH the CRANKCASE . It Should ALSO match the Timing Cover . Now WE ALL know how to make gaskets , lunchpapers translucent - for a PATTERN .
to CHECK if the HOLES in the Timing Cover and the Crank Case ALIGN ! .
