Another one of the best is gone.... My favorite Dickie Betts story is a story about Duane. Clapton got Duane to record with him on the Derek and the Dominoes album and got Duane to join him on the first few shows of the subsequent tour,. After a few shows, Duane decided to quit the tour. When he flew home one of the Allman Bro's roadies picked him up at the airport and in the conversation on the drive he asked Duane why he quit the tour with Clapton. The story goes that Duane told the roadie, "Erik ain't got nothin' on Dickie".

Dickie wrote a lot of Allman brothers hits: Blue Sky, Ramblin' Man, In Memory of Elizabeth B Reed, Jessica,... and many more..

I read that Elizabeth Reed was a graveyard headstone name where they used to hang out, but it was a disguise for the real woman the song was about.
