I have used a single Mikuni set up for decades with good results. (Compared to worn Amals). I could never make the fuel lines look neat.

I am nearing the end of a restoration and I want neaten up the fuel lines

the Amal Mk2 provides a neater factory-like appearance.

I’m not looking for high performance but I do like to have in the 40MPH to 80MPH range.

There are lots of reviews on the Mikuni, not one could I find on a single Amal set-up.

Opinions please.

Are there any ideas about using the stock air filter with a single carb?

The mikuni is a better quality carburettor than a MK2 Amal

I like Mikunis so maybe I am biased....

I do know one guy, he is on here and may respond, who runs a single Amal, a small one (32mm), on an 850 and he has it running OK. Though I suspect he will eventually change it for 2 Amal Premiers, more for originality than useability.

On one of my bikes I have just ditched the single 38mm Amal Mk2, because I am just about done with feeding it needles and clips and having the needle fall out anyway! This is a high vibes 500 single race bike, which may exacerbate the problem, but the next time it runs, it will have a VM38 Mikuni!

As for the fuel lines, the aesthetics are up to you, but what is wrong with a pipe from each tap to a T piece and a pipe up and over to the carb? On my Rickman Norton with twin Mikunis I do about the same just with 2 Ts and a short link between them.

I have the 90s and the tees. I guess what really bugs me is where the fuel enters the carb. I like the look of the Amal arrangement .

once I get this rebuild sorted I plan on going back to twin Amal 932s.

As Steve said I have a 32mm Amal mk2. It was on the bike when I got it. I wouldn’t have fitted it by choice but for day to day running I have no great problems.
Loads of torque but does run out of steam from, I guess about 5000 rpm.
Main issues I’ve had is that I reconditioned it but it has a habit of flooding. I’m sure it’s a sticking float. Doesn’t do it often now but it does catch me out on the odd occasion.
No other real problems.
I will at some stage look at, possibly a Mikuni 34mm or Amal Premiers. Like the idea of the premiers with the original filter but since I only have the back plate the whole kit is very expensive!
Hope this helps a little.
