Dan Gurney’s New Big Twin

You could put two of them side by side and call it a 'Square Four'. It would probably come complete with the clanking main gears. One of those motors would be better in a Featherbed frame than a unit construction Triumph motor. How good is that ?

What was the patent based on ?

Third paragraph states:

"Where did vibration go? The patented engine balances itself by having two counter-rotating crankshafts that are geared together; when the pistons are up or down, the crank counterweights are down or up, and when the pistons are at mid-stroke, the crank counterweights are going in opposite directions".

So its basically two single cylinder engines rotating in opposite directions. Seems like a lot of extra parts and engineering to solve the problem to me. I am interested to see how they perform etc.

This is the theory that resulted in the Velocette "Roarer" in 1939. Good to see it resurrected in a modern way!!
cheers
