Years ago, a co-worker recited an old adage: "If five people say your drunk, go lay down"

In the context, I interpreted it as, the consensus should be at least considered. Of course, back in the stone age, before keyboard Commandos and armchair engineers. The consensus were generally people known to you, somewhat.

I concur with Greg, there is no reason, on God's green earth, to go uprooting that plug, when you can easily and CLEARLY clean/inspect/verify the back side.
