1 - Any helpful tips on getting the inspection cap off on the primary chaincase. I put it on so tight last time i can't get it open again. I do have a little tool but she just wont turn.

2 - Gearbox oil level. What height should it be in the gearbox?

thanks in advance for your help.

- 73 850 commando roadster.

For the inspection cap, try the side of a small open ended spanner, or the largest screwdriver you have, & screw up an adjustable spanner onto the screwdriver flat & turn.
Gearbox oil, fill to the level hole after taking out the level bolt on the outer cover, just behind the kickstart. I usally overfill, & keep using the kickstart to turn the gearbox, as the oil takes a while to get into the main case. Get the bike level to drain off excess from the level hole.

There should be a small hexagon level plug at the rear of the outer cover, approximately in line with the kickstart shaft?

With the bike upright, remove plug and fill the gearbox slowly until oil drips from the level hole.

Or there is an easier way, as it is possible to see the inner end of the level plug through the gearbox access hole (you may need a lamp?) so leave the plug in, and just fill with oil until the level reaches the plug.

Ok.

Got the gearbox oil leveled out. Got the inspection cap open (broke a flat head srewdriver but the end of a wrench got it done!)

One more question....

What should the level be in the primary chaincase?

Should be 200cc or 7 oz - Just enough to wet the chain as it comes around the bottom of the clutch drum. Ideally, this also lines up with the bottom of the oil level plug on the cover (center near the bottom).
