Comparison of JS to Comstock valve springs – conical or beehive?

Yes someone sent me a set of his springs so I could compare them. For a couple years I was under the impression that the Comstock springs had a true conical shape because of the chevy conical link he posted that showed a true conical shape and because Comstock said that his springs had an advantage over beehive springs. When they arrived I couldn't believe what I was seeing - it had the same shape as a beehive spring.

I am setting the record straight.

And for years I have been selling an 8 deg retainer (not a 7 deg). Note that I posted this info along with a photo of the 8 deg cutter on Comstock's spring announcement thread on april 4, 2015. Later, on April 13 2015 Comstock released his video showing one of my 7 deg retainers.

So here’s the deal, you posted with the possible inference that Comstock got your springs and copied them and had them manufactured.

To what end? Does this make you look better? Smarter? Is he taking business away from you?

People are pretty tired of all the political ads recently and don’t really want to see more bickering right now.

What prompted this? Did you believe there was some disinformation out there?

Fighting over the scraps ? How big is the market for Commando valve springs ? I have a friend who makes a lot of one-offs for racing bikes - he always registers the designs. I don't know to what end, perhaps he is afraid someone might copy his efforts ? Let's be honest about Commando valve springs ? - for most purposes, the standard ones are adequate. It is only when you chase horsepower by moving the power-band upwards, that you have problems. And there are more problems in that besides getting the valve gear to keep up.

The underlying reason behind JS starting this thread is not technically based at all, but political.

It is a desperate attempt to deflect interest, a ploy he has used previously, and it does him no credit at all.
