Regarding "real" issues and root causes I might still have something else to discover. The bike is running again, after I replaced the coil plug and the coil. Fyi the plug still tests ok, so the original "smashing" was not related to the failure. I got both the coil and the plug from an automotive parts store, all I asked for was parts for a 2004 mercedes e-500 ( I do have one of those in my driveway and I checked them out first and everything fits ). I really hope I got it this time, still you never know. If this is a good fix, the root cause goes back to a badly designed mounting bracket, the vibration broke it in half a couple of years ago and I had it welded and added epoxy to the sides at assembly, o reduce the shakes. Additionally the "defective" coil seemed to have a crack at the base of the plug socket, however I can not be 100% sure because it looks like the manufacturing process might have a separation at that spot. No, the coil was not Bosch, it was SMPE.
So now I am looking at the 2015 wiring diagram that Stu Bodycote kindly put on the forum and I am trying to add a couple of bypasses to the permissives circuits, again trying to avoid vibration issues. Hopefully I will be able to bypass them all if I need to, that would leave things like the crank sensor or ecu to worry about, can't fix something like that on the road.
Thanks for all the suggestions on this thread, much appreciate it.
Finally, has there been any progress in accessing the OMEX ecu?
