Check your Amal float bowl drain plugs

I have to agree for me the gantry is also a no brainer as it makes setting up the carbs a doddle
Did you have the inlet manifold & float bowls powder coated??

The carb bodies/bowls/caps/inlet manifolds, tickler buttons and a whole bunch of other stuff were vapor blasted.
I then added the bowls, caps, manifolds and tickler buttons to my powder coat bucket.

FWIW, the madass gantry may not fit if you have an aftermarket tank. I purchased the gantry a couple of years ago and installed it only to discover that my Fastback tank from Burton Bike Bits would not clear the gantry. :( BBB claims the tank is identical to the OEM fastback and it is in external appearance/dimensions from the top/sides/length but perhaps the underside, which fits fine with the OEM Amal setup, is slightly different than OEM.

The Indian made tank i acquired had the same problem... the throttle cable support post was in constant contact with the tank underside, raising/lowering the tank or skewing it to the left made not the slightest difference

The support post can be shortened.
You can remove the hold-down bolt releasing it from the platform and then remove the required length of material from the post base. You may or may not have to drill and tap depending on how much material you removed.

I've removed/reinstalled my OEM (metal) bowl drain bolts uncounted times and I reuse the SAME gasket. Never had a drain plug loosen or leak. It's another case of not being able to understand why some folks have problems with certain items and other don't! ;) Go figure...
I do the same as Mexico. I re use the same already compressed gasket until it cuts. I use reasonable torque and never experienced problems. My Amals are rubber mounted thow.

When i sighted a line between the centre of the hole in the post and the capstan (where the cable wraps around) the two were slightly out of alignment... and as the shaft had been indented for grub screws for the various arms it couldn't easily be re-positioned. So i heated a put a slight set into the cable post.
This cured the alignment problem & the contact between post & tank

Anybody tried these?

They replace the bowl attaching screws and the drain plug. Versions with drain screws also available.

Not on Mk1s, but I do have a set for my Mk2 smoothbores. Handy for a day on the dyno, but I replace them with the standard bowls once the dyno work is done

Those do look like a nice improvement...supposed to eliminate warping of bowl from flange screw over tightening.

Last time I rode to a Norton meeting my 750 broke down due to a weird electrical issue. Now on my way to another meeting on my 850 and the right hand float bowl drain plug fell out. Was doing 80 down the freeway. Luckily was able to coast to a nice shady bridge. Mrs is on the way with another drain plug and all will be well in toyland
Went to the local lawn mower / tractor repair shop and bought two "O" rings that are used for hydraulic coupling hoses. they are impervious to oil and gas , my premier carbs have a nice groove on the drain plug that if you fit the correct size they stay in and wont bulge. never had good luck with the fiber washers.

Another answer to a problem we never had??
(Sorry... early start here, hence Mr Grumpy, but are we now to be beset with 'bowl warpage' worries?)
Have a good one :-)
