Charging lead fuse?

Never liked the look of that charging connector on my 961CR - it looks like something off a radio controlled buggy with no strain relief or waterproofing- and has been on my 'must get round to changing that' list. Well rode into work this morning and the positive lead fractured from the connector and shorted against the frame. It has blown a fuse - not a main one as indicators still work - but instruments are dead. Can someone check which fuse this will have blown pls? Hoping its not an 'under tank' one. Lesson to learn; if you don't change the connector then use some loom tape or heat shrink to stabilise the leads to the connector.

I don't use mine and fitted a "newer" style optimate that lives on the right below the tank....

Beware that the Optimate charging plugs will also fracture at the lead to plug joint, exposing the copper core... I caught mine just in time and by pure luck. I thought that it was adequately strain relieved but it had been on the bike and in regular use for 5 years so had seen a fair bit of flexing one way and another. The plus point is that the Optimate charge lead is fitted with a fuse that can be made easily accessible. Worth a careful check if you are using one of these leads.

This was my offending fuse , decided to fail 3 yrs ago as I was bout to board the “ le shuttle “ train back thru Channel tunnel to UK , had to bump it down the boarding ramp to get on train , and bump start again in the train to get out ( not for the faint hearted) 3 guys pushing bike with me on it , banging my crash helmet on the roof before the trusty 961 burst into life

Daft question.....why would the Optimate fuse stop the bike starting?

Yes I suspect there is a bit more to this story......

Changed fuse - euro4 bike so under 'hump' - and all running again. Cool but sunny ride into work with dry roads - not sure if I ever mentioned it but I really love riding this bike it gives me such pleasure to be able to ride it into work. Especially since I have chosen to give up 'not riding like a **** nutter' for Lent......
