Well, so much for my quest for a 600cc dual sport thumper.

Picked up a CCM GP450 today.

Nice looking thing with some really clever features. 125kg dry and 50bhp.

And... Made in Bolton... !

Looks fun...!

This folks, is absolutely true...

I phoned CCM (they’re in Bolton remember) regarding some bits etc.

Bloke tells me to send an email to ‘spurs@ccm. Blah’

‘Spurs’? says I ‘As in the football club’??

‘NO’ says he...

‘Spurs’... ‘as in Spur pahhts fo’ bike’ ...

(Probably only makes sense to my fellow countrymen)

Yep. No concept in my head. I love my KTM 500 EXC, with two sets of wheels. Similar but not as classy. Congratulations

Nice bike indeed, some might say a modern take on the DRZ 400 ;)
I am always intrigued at USD forks on off road bikes, it obviously works but must provide extra challenges for the fork seals.

Is the frame mostly bolted together , or do it just look that way ?

Get your arse out there and do some real dual sporting. The 450 won't beat you up like a 600 can. Have fun.

That’s the plan !

Bit more difficult on our little island though, we don’t have your deserts and wide open spaces. Have to be careful to be sure we’re only riding where allowed etc.

If we have any experienced green lane / BOAT guys in riding distance from Oxford please shout up...

That would be limiting. I've only done dual sport riding in California and Nevada. That was 25 years ago though.

Stay in shape. It'll save your life if you ever do get over here or anywhere riding in the desert.

As I recall dual sport bikes were fun on the road too. Quick steering, no weight to speak of, real easy to lift the front tire off the road. Hooligan tools. ;)

The CCM is going to be used off road, I’m gonna be exporting the BOATs in the Ox / Bucks / Wilts areas and also Wales.

Any hints or tips on the above would be very gratefully received chaps.

However, I’ve only ridden it on the road so far and I gotta say it’s made me think. The bigger diameter wheels and loooong travel suspension do seem well suited to our increasingly shite roads. Pot holes just don’t exist. Flicking it around on bumpy, pot hole strewn country back lanes is a breeze. It’s really quite nice. I reluctantly have to admit I now rather ‘get’ the appeal of the on road adventure bike brigade...
