Hi all,

Just a question on carbs would puting two float bowl gaskets on have much of an impact on performance it was suggested by a mechanic as to stop the float bowl hitting the top of the carb body,my carbs are sweet when running and plugs burning at rusty tan but it seems to take a long time to tickle up the carbs.

Assume these are Amal Concentrics. Would not recommend fitting 2 gaskets. The float level should be 060" to 080" (1.5 to 2mm) below the lip of bowl. The adjustment is made at the fuel inlet bush in the lower front of the bowl. The bush presses down to raise the level or is pressed upward to lower the level. But that is secondary only to the length of the tickler plunger. This is a tube within a spring that fits inside the tickler assembly. Sometimes they don't poke down far enough and fail to depress the float enough to get adequate flooding for a cold start. If you are really careful, you can prise the plunger out a little more to extend the lenght. Look also for a good technical explaination on Bushman's advice on Concentrics. A search on this site may help or do a Google on Bushman Concentric.

I don't understand, "float bowl hitting the top of the carb body" can't picture this?
