Can't adjust clutch

Yep. I use carb cleaner spray and a 3M scuff pad. The steel plates get deglazed too.
Hi guys,
Well I cleaned all my clutch plates to perfection, put them back in, did the necessary adjustments, started 'er up, and...nothing.
clutch still won't disengage. Actuator arm working properly, hub springs out about 1/8 th of an inch.
Actuator arm looks like it's in the same position as in the manual photo. What the heck??
I have it on the center stand while I'm trying out the clutch. I don't have the primary chain cover on as I'm trying this.
Does that effect anything?

What did your clutch center look like. If it is super notched the plates might not move.
Still seems strange. 1/8in might be a little low if it’s not adjusted. Screw the adjuster in until you meet resistance and instead of backing it out try the lever.
Remember to loosen the adjuster at the handlebar before making adjustments at the clutch.

1/8" = 0.125" lift for the pushrod/diaphragm spring centre is about right although actual clutch 'lift' will be around half that.

Then you got me why it won't work. After all the recent intimate time I spent in the clutch department there's a lot of moving parts but as long as the parts move it should work.

I’m also leaning towards what someone else said. You don’t need to start a bike to see if the clutch works. Just put it in gear and roll it. Clutch lever out = bike won’t roll. Clutch lever in = bike rolls.

Got me too, as approximately 0.120" - 0.130" is the normal pushrod/spring centre lift (did you measure yours-spring lift I mean, during that intimate clutch time?). If the 1/8" measurement is reasonably accurate then a lack of lift doesn't seem to be the problem.
The pushrod lifts the diaphragm spring. Nothing physically 'lifts' the pressure plate in the Commando clutch.

Chester1, why are you standing on the kick start with it in gear?
The clutch doesn’t disengage the wheel from the gearbox... it disengages the engine from the gearbox.
Put it in nuetral, if the clutch is disengaging, your efforts will not turn the engine over. Conversely, if you can turn the engine over with the clutch lever pulled in, it is not disengaging (assuming plugs are in etc).
Or try pushing the bike off the stand as suggested by swoosh.
Forgive me if I’ve misunderstood somehow, but from the description above, your clutch should be working, and I'm wondering if you’re inadvertently tripping yourself up somehow.

You guys are SO patient. SO patient!
I have acknowleged and acted upon every thread that came my way. What I did today was put the primary cover back on, put in the lube, put it in gear, pulled clutch lever.....= bike rolled along!!!!
In conclusion, it was the stuck clutch plates that were the initial problem, like you all suggested.
And yes, I guess I was inadvertently tripping myself up in the end.
I started the bike yesterday, while it was on the centerstand, pulled in lever, would not go onto gear. Just grinding away.
Today as I was saying, tried the push, then started it up, lifted stand, and it worked!?!?!?!? Don't even know what changed.
The ride today was exhilerating. It's been a while since all systems are a go ( carbs, coils, plug wires, clutch,etc etc...) Took me back to the 70s , riding my Norton with the wind blowing through my hair.
No hair today, but all the sensation.
Sorry , getting too wordy. Just excited and grateful!
I'd like to buy you all a beer!
