Burt Munro RIP,a Kiwi, set a land speed record in 1967 on a 1920 Indian as far as I know
Edit: upon further reading, his record has been surpassed perhaps a few times.

A conjecture as to What Happened: Someone had: (a) too much time on his hands (b) not much money (c) an Indian engine with no frame (d) A Norton with a blown up engine. The rest can be explained by, "It seemed like a good idea at the time." Many humans do things for this reason

I was under the impression that the race committee at Bonneville won’t allow anyone to contest Burt’s records in testament to his achievements.
