The best ignition is the points system with its fast adv. slope, definitely noticed if ya into that. Also starts on rather low voltage or kicking pushing fast enough, about run speed of kid and old adults I found. Any igniton that is too adv. will kickback, duh. Long term downside of point is the AAU will wear out even greased and oilled regularly, which it needs. The oil tank can be protected by place a cushion pad under tank with a hole for the bottom bolt to miss so most of tank bottom supports the mass, then the factory top mounts will work and not break up too. I'm collecting old and 'new' AAU's if ya do get a electro brain sparker. Must stay ahead of re-torque on head, each heat cycle for 2-3 times then a few more every 1000 miles or so or first hint of oil or slightly smoke. Sorta like sail boat these things, they go bad if left idle, then go bad if used, uge.

Hey Spier,

If you want to use your old AAU, I'd suggest you get it bushed between the cam and the shaft like this.

I never had my own the previous owner did the conversion to Boyer. This bush mod can be done in the future.Mechanic is pretty sure he has one somewhere so I'm not going to bother him with it until unit is secured .These are rare enough these days I think? What is the issue with wear does it oval or egg shape eventually?
I had read about the tank issues here before so last year I shaved off that bottom threaded part as best I could and put thick rubber under it. Surprisingly the crack appeared where the oil return pipe is attached to the tank. I'll do the same mod to this when I get around to it.
Oh and re torquing the head will be stictly attended to dont worry.

Mine just wore in a circular mode, so it is loose in any direction and there is no way to set the point gap without it wandering around.
