Any one been to bike town in Tokyo recently. It's the big motorcycle district where a lot of bike related shops are grouped together. Was very big a few years back but apparently not so now... I will be in Narita next week for work and have some spare time on my last day. Worth a look?

Thanks

Tell us how it goes.
Take your camera ?

Never having been there, and no current info.
But its unlikely to have gone away, there are just too many bike enthusiasts for that to happen ?

Our son and family live in Chiba-shi, about a 45-minute train ride from downtown Tokyo. I'd never heard of "Bike town". I'll have to ask him if he knows anything about it.

I went to a couple of bike accesory shops in Tokyo a couple of years ago. The prices were obscene even for Japanese products.

Here's a few pics from my adventure into "bike town" in Tokyo.

Thanks for the report Dean, always interesting to see how the other half live (so to speak).
Prices look daunting, take a calculator !?
How far out of central Tokyo would this be ?

I can recall a local accessories shop like that, once.
Well before online shopping though, and it was gone. ?

It is in Ueno which is in the East of Tokyo. Not sure how far from central Tokyo but it is a 2 min walk from Ueno station. Had a good time walking around. Would love to have seen it 10 years ago.

Did some research on the Ueno Bike Town but can’t seem to find the latest update in English. So on my recent trip to Tokyo, I have decided to explore this area. Here’s a brief description on my visit on 10th Sept 2016.
Tokyo Bike Town. From Ueno Station, take exit 5, where you will pass by some shops, keep to the left of Ueno Station. Once exited, cross the road, you will see a shop, Wendy’ First Kitchen, walk towards the right of Wendy’s and continue from there you will pass by Yoshinoya Ueno Ekimae 吉野家 上野駅前店 keep to the left and now you are underneath the highway which is above you. Walk along this street that is parallel to the highway and you will see bike shops on this side of the street, as will as opposite. One of the first shops you will see is Bike Ryutsu Center, it’s a place that repair bikes. Further down the street you will see Rabee Motorcycle Shop www.rabee.co.jp This place has three levels, ground floor are accessories such as gloves, bulks, riding gears, second level there’s more riding gears with some toy motorcycle models, key chains, etc. And level 3 are all the accessories for ladies. There’s another Rabee store opposite the street, along it are other accessories shops such as Come Come and UPC Ride On www.upc.ne.jp where they have lots of helmets in store. As I have already bought some helmets, I bought a few small items from Rabee such as helmet locks, glove holder tie for my belt and a few karabiner to tie to my bike glove. If you have a few hours to spare it’s a place that worth a visit. But don’t expect too much.
Overall I still find that Ricoland (Riders Community Land) the best place to visit. http://www.ricoland.co.jp The one that is lacated at Tokyo Bay, next to Shinonome subway, along Rinkai line/Rinkai-fukutoshi line. It’s right next to Autobac. Map direction: http://ricoland.co.jp/shopinfo/index.ph ... &blog_id=4 This is a place that has stocks for almost everything from helmets, bags, clothes, tyres, and best of all it has a fleet of nice motorcycle for rent: from BMW F800, Harley Davidson, Royal Enfield, Ducati to the local bikes such as Honda and Yamaha. I have rented from one of their staff members who can speak English. Mr Masato Tsuchiya, Ricoland Tokyo Bay Shinonome, 2-7-12 Shinonome Kouto-Ku, Tokyo, 135-0062, Japan. Phone: 81-3-35277431, email: r-shinonome.08@ricoland.co.jp Look for him and he will provide the details of bike rental, insurance, etc. Rental from 4 hours onwards. Make sure you bring along your valid international driving license as well as your personal driving license. Japan highway uses ETC card or you have to chose the lane that pay cash. Some rental bikes have ETC card holder but you will need to get a ETC card or if they can lent you one to use and you pay them the toll charges later.
