THIS is what Norton should do with the 660 Atlas lump. Of course, it would have been a tad better to have done it first.

Aprilia are gonna sell these things like hot cakes, cudda been Norton…

With all due respect Fast Eddie, but I think you are loosing the plot.

First a Harley, then a Honda now a hideous Aprilla.

Suggest you sit in a dark room and drink lots of fine ale

Then tommorrow go out into your shed and look at your Commando

My plot may be lost…

But so are Norton’s sales !!

S’wot the kids is buyin’ innit.

Ok, you’re right, dark room and ale for me !

Well dilutional or not that looks a far more "Off road / Adventure" whatever it's called these days bike than the Atlas did. However, I still think the Atlas would sell as it looked so different to those. How many scramblers have Triumph sold ?

The is the Moto Morini X-Cape 650 ( Made in China I believe).

Are kids really buying bikes that look like this?
God I must be old!!

Our kid (28) has a motorbike.

Very few of his friends have motorbikes. Which I think is a bit of a shame.

Showed him a picture of the Aprilla and he doesn't want one.

Nor does he want a F-king Harley; "They are for stupid old gits"

Harley sales are going south as well. Probably due to stupid old gits dying off?

Eddie you're skirting borderline sedition.... Take a care because they come for you in the wee hours so's there's few witnesses..... Just a word to the wise because this is akin to chopping a Vincent or Rudge.

Mark my words boys, those Aprilia‘s will sell like crazy. Jus’ like the 700 Tenere has / does.

Staylite, of course 28 year old kids don’t want no stinkin’ Harleys. Neither did I when I was 28 !

28 or 68 ... As I've said before " I wouldn't cross the road to piss on a Harley if it was on fire"

As my mother was quoted as saying in the local paper 40 years ago about something else... "it's slippery slope" (to Harley ownership)

Right. It's time for some fine ale. Cheers !

I am not usually one to defend Harley but i visited a dealership this week, checking on delivery of my 961 Starter motor, and they had one of the new HD adventure bikes on display. Very nicely put together. If i was in the market for a large touring bike which can tolerate gravel roads then it would be worth consdering, i hope they do well with it.

To each his own.

Love mine.

Meanwhile, back with Norton’s…

Where is the Aprilia assembled? Italy, China, or some other asian country?
It's sad to note that Europe can't compete with cost of chinese made engines anymore. Even BMW buys their current inline twin engine from China.
What happened to the chinese successor to Norton's 961?

Hmmm... easy blokes...i've had my Commando since 1977, my ' 74 Harley Davidson
Superglide since 1980....slam 'em if You will, however, no debate on trying to decide where either one
is made, shame that it's so "global" there is a mystery to a new motorcycles' origin. I know at one time there were some 900+ Chinese motorcycle manufacturers, don't care to look up the current stats......b.t.w., a
book could be written about my long ownership with each bike; several chapters with memories impossible to make up, like a lot of You.....Not to mention both of them have been better to me than several women in my life......! just my old half- broke down humble opinion.

I agree. This is the way the market is going in NZ.

A bit heavy and high for me now but would have suited me very well 15 years ago

I only rode the demo bike on brief occasions, which ever variant it was...I get the two muddled up.... and tbh it wasn't my bag. I'm no test rider, but for me I found the front brakes too powerful for the bikes intentions, and the clutch area stuck out far too much, which led me to have my right leg sticking out oddly. It also didn't look like it would survive a tumble very well, with it not being as contained as other similar bikes. I liked the styling, especially the old school aluminium mudguard, and the engine looked great in there from side on.... but as a package it wasn't for me.

No, from memory there wasn't a road ready one.
I remember one of the design engineers, Mark, took one around Bruntingthorpe...it may have been a carbon framed one. But at the time I had just taken over the service workshop, so I was mega busy and in my own little bubble as it were. Would have liked to though, to compare against the V4. The V4 rode nice, and Hicky seemed to be a big fan of the Superlight. Shame we never got to see what he could make from his own Superlight, as work seems to have ended on that now...not seen any updates at least.

Does your dislike of Harley extend to other brands as well ?
