AVON ROADRIDER TYRES , Do you use these ?

I have used various Avons over the years, both on cars & bikes, & have hated every one of them, both on modern & classic. Our local tyre specialist reckons the Roadrider is good, so we will have to see. Been for one 15 mile trip so far this year with the new Avon, & wasn't too impressed, the front gave out on one corner, but maybe it was because the tyre was new & it was only 5 degrees.
If it ever stops raining, I would love to ride it again
Having used both AM21/21 combo in 19 and 18" and then changed to BT45 and now AM26 I agree. First ride on AM26 was horrible, they felt like the bike was going to roll over without any lean being introduced, very twitchy. They have bedded in OK but they don't feel right and regrettably I will go back to the Japanese tyres when these are worn out. BT45 rears have dual compound, amazing wet grip and are 10-20% lighter than the Avons. Only reason I changed was to get a 90 section on the front, BT45's smallest is a 100 in 19".
Flo, weather will be good Sunday, heading your way for a decent run out. Have faith :)

I have wm3's and road rider 100/90's front and rear...... I'm new (this time around) to the commando so i don't have a basis for comparison, but they seem to work great for tooling around. In the twisties they track really nicely. FWIW

Dunno about the 19" rear BT-45 as I run an 18" rear wheel, but FWIW, these are the tires Sir Matt Rambow recommends for Commandos. That's worth something.

I have a pair of them, installed by Matt when he and Buchanans did my wheels. I like them.

Having said which, I do intend to try Pirelli Sport Demons next time around.

But then, I'm a bit of a fool for Pirelli tires....

Tire selection is very subjective today. I'm of the opinion that any of the modern motorcycle tires available far exceed the capabilities of any Norton and those of most Norton street riders. That being said, I look for long wear, rain capabilities and availability. As for wear, I've found the Avons to be the worst of the lot. I'm using Dunlop GT 501 now. I've got about 4000 miles so far. Plenty rear (18") tread left. I look for about 5000-6000 miles before I replace the rear. I run the Bridgestone BT 45 on my BMW K75. Got about 6000 with maybe a thou or more to go on the rear.
