Atlas paint spec

Found my paint code....02.11.14

I had my 63 Atlas tank painted with a paint spec I found on the Internet for "Norton Cardinal Red". It turned out to be a browner, purple-er color than the cherry red I was expecting.

Anybody have a paint spec for the Atlas red used in the early years? As far as I know, there were only three colors available in 62-63....black, silver, and the cherry red ( not a metallic).

Next question: Would you paint over the new paint, or strip it?

Cardinal Red is listed as a Matchless color for 1961 and 1962.
And is described as a purple red.

If the paint is in PERFECT condition, and has had no decals or stickers applied, and has never been waxed,
then it should be OK to paint over it - provided its repainted in the SAME type of paint.
Did you clear coat over it - that could prevent another coat being applied too.
