HI. I have a 65 Atlas and it has an oil tank with 1 breather hose. I have that hose going to atmosphere and the breather from the engine going to atmosphere as well. The bike must also have the Exxon Valdez option fitted.
What would be the best moves to minimise the oil leaks ? Should I add a second pipe into the tank which would take the engine breather? Could I buy a better vented tank? Happy to look at anything. Ps Gidday Tex.

You should have a tower on your oil tank with two hose ports. The lower port connects to the timed breather port, and the upper is vented to atmosphere.

You might check out how I modified my oil tank tower. The two ports and tower are shown in the link below.

A reed valve placed somewhere to vent the crankcase while preventing reverse airflow into the crankcase will help reduce the oil leaks. There is a plethora of info on reed valves in this forum ..... use the search function. The simplest method is to plug the timed breather port and install comnoz's sump plug breather. Route the sump breather tube to the lower port on the oil tank tower.

Hi.
I just have a dodgy looking brass 90 degree fitting tapped into the top of the tank for 1 hose. Can I buy the tower fitting or do I have to get another tank? Thanks for the reply.

The early Dominator oil tanks did not have the tower. Sounds like you may have one of those.

For another look at the tower, see: https://www.accessnorton.com/threads/just-curious-holes-in-atlas-dommie-oil-tank.15813/

The tower is not available as a separate part. Your choice is to buy another oil tank, or cut the tower off an otherwise unusable tank, and weld it in. The tower is actually nothing more than a 1 inch ID tube. You could fabricate one easily. It stands 2 inches tall off the top of the tank, and leans at approx. 25 deg angle to clear the frame rail. Should you opt for this route, I would suggest you do the mod I described.

You could also simply weld in another tube port for a tank vent. I do not recommend this as oil mist coming from the crankcase breather will exit thru the new breather port, and get over the bike. Trapping this mist is the purpose of my mod.
