Atlas front guard bolts

Hello again tex.
Have solved the clutch problem. The plates weren't quite flush inside the basket. I checked them and found about 3mm of space were they weren't seated quite right. Seemed to work well after that.
Can you tell me what thread is used on the bottom of the forks that the front guard stays bolt to.?
I have tried a few different bolts with no luck. Hesitant to run any taps through them as they are quite clean and nothing seems to fit.
I'm still playing around with the centre stand spring. We are hoping that when we stretch the spring, the eyelet will rotate. Wishful thinking maybe. Otherwise I'll photo it and send it through.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the Atlas is Whitworth thread,however, if you have the Commando sliders they will be metric possibly UNC.
 
The thread into the slider is 26 t,p,i, which is CEI or cycle thread, this changed to UNF on the Commando.

Yep, wrong, again. !
Its OK, we are getting used to it, as soon as forks are mentioned.....

26 tpi British Cycle Thread, as possm says - which Nortons used for most models, for most of their history.
Whitworth or BS type wrenchs/spanners fit, but the 26 threads per inch thread is particular for motorcycles (and bicycles) that used it.

(Note though that Nortons used some BSF (British Standard Fine) on the Atlas, and UNF on some parts of the Commando.
Always an adventure playing with more than one variety of Nortons...

I'm never surgeon the norton atlas. Most of it is whit worth, but I know a lot of it was cycle thread around the fuel taps and things. Wouldn't have been surprised if it was Standard Western Swedish left hand with a twist!
Now to source some bolts. Cheers
 
You don't say where you are...
Walridge, Baxters etc come to mind.

Be careful !
While the bolt head sizes are 'whitworth' wrench size, the thread form is the important bit.
26 tpi British Cycle Thread is the operative word(s).

BSF, Whitworth are other possible, and different variations...

Hi Hillbone, I have a 650SS first registered January 67 NZ that I restored within the last 2 years and have previously owned a 66 and 67 Atlas, depending on what year yours is most parts will be similar, most cycle parts i.e. bolts etc are cycle tread, though with the relationship with Associated Motercycles {AJS Matchless] which used BSF anything is possible.
