One winter project goal this year was to swap out the single LS front brake on my 67 Atlas with 2 LS Commando unit that I have. As I look at the swap, it seems straightforward- remove the orignal backplate and shoe assembly and replace with 2 LS backplate and shoe assembly (assuming all the parts are there which I believe they are; clean and lube appropriately, etc).
I believe I need a new cable as I don't think you can use the single LS cable with the 2 LS assembly. Does anyone know what cable I need (bars are Atlas US import)? Also, can I use the same hand lever?

Next big question involve "setting up" the 2 LS unit , which I understand is the key to success. What exactly is the process for correctly setting up the unit? I don't have acces to a lot of sepcialized tools or machining capability, so at least initially my set up will be limited to what can be adjusted with basic tools.

The weather is starting to warm up, so I'm anxious to try the 2 LS solution to improved barke performance on the Atlas...

I'm not sure 100%, but I think the Atlas cable is the same as the Commando cable unless the threads on the adjuster are not the same.

My way of setting up the drum brake needs a few hands... the front wheel must be free to rotate and the axle nut should be loose. Remove the linkage between the two brake arms, then give the wheel a good spin. Activate the brake with wrenches on each cam at the same time, then while still holding the brake shoes firm against the drum, tighten the axle nut. At this point the brake arms can be released, now apply the brake and hold it firm, this can be done with a bungee cord on the front brake lever, use a wrench to apply the other shoe against the drum, again another bungee can be used to hold it tight. adjust the linkage so that the pins just slip into each brake arm, tighten everything.

Indeed, the 2TLS front brake was a Commando only item - so if you get the Commando brake cable to suit the TLS,
it will have the correct threads to suit the adjuster on the brake plate.

Cables come in different lengths, you may need to measure using a bit of rope etc to make sure the length is in the ballpark.
Some Commandos came with Western Bars, which are high and wide, and cable may even be a bit long for you.
My cable came in a Wassell carton, 38" outer.
Lever should be OK with whatever cable is fitted to it - but we haven't seen your lever...
