This pic should show you whether or not there’s an issue with your S pipes. You can see the e start protrusion is comfortably inboard of the primary chain case gasket for reference...

That big ads thing behind the bike is a REPUBLIC SEABEE amphibious aircraft . 1947.
 
That is what I thought it was when I saw your photo. My uncle had one of those. Took me for a lot of rides when I was young. It could land on the lake or in the corn field.
 
Just received a nice reply from Colorado norton works . i will be in touch with him after I get the bike here and take a good look at it .
I do like that his E Start has belt drive .
 
They are cool airplanes . Easy to fly . A lot of fun .
just not fast .
I flew one back from wisconsin to Nevada awhile ago .
usually about 100 MPH .
I had very strong headwinds going into Wyoming over the mountains .
my ground speeds were down to 25 mph . For hours on end .
could only get to 10,900 ft . No more . Had to go around the mountains , not over .
lit was something to remember and laugh about . Yikes .
