Another point of view on oils, ect

FWIW, the only straight 50W oil Redline produces is their 50WT race oil, which is also rated as a mulitgrade 15W50. The ester based stock that Redline oils are made from is naturally multigrade, and doesn't require the polymer thickeners that are used to make multigrade petroleum based oils. Redline doesn't recommend their race oil for street use because it lacks the high detergent properties of their street oils. The only motorcycle specific 50W oil they make is their 20W50, which they advertise as "Designed for the latest Big-Twin motorcycle engines that specify 20W50 motor oil, including including Evolution, Twin Cam, and aftermarket engines of similar design."

Hi Ken, yes I seem to remember th e rating on the bottles, just to be clear , this was in my race motor, not my roadbike.

Speaking of Spectro, Jim if I sent you a quart of Spectro 20W-50 non-synthetic would you be interested in including it in your next batch of testing? I'm curious to see how it compares and I'm sure others are as well.

Well, my testing is far from a complete test, but I would do a bake and viscosity test if you would like to see it. Jim

Not trying to hi-jack, but like it is almost the same subject...

Is it a good idea to drain the oil at the end of the season and let the bike with new oil during winter (or without?) or wait until spring to drain it, necessarily cold?
