This has been on my 1972 commando for awhile. It is not the stock crappy plastic Norton rear brake switch. It is another switch with an adaptor plate. It works great. Can provide more details if people are interested in trying.

Standard industrial “micro switch”.
That was “micro” 50 years ago...:D
Still used today.
Is it sealed?
 
I just use a old Honda trail bike brake switch with the pull on/off with a spring that goes from the switch to the brake pedal have been using this set up for years without any problem, is mounted off one of the foot peg mounting bolts.

The original brake switch will last a very long time but when it does finial give up the ghost the newer replacement switches will fall apart in a very short time they are not as good as the original switch, the rubber perish quickly letting in water or moisture in it, in 43 years I got 38 years out of the original switch and the first replacement switch lasted 11 months and its replacement lasted even less, I had a Honda switch in my spare parts so was a easy install and to me it a better set up than the original switch.

Not to hijack this thread but should the original switch be packed with grease like the manual says? Maybe dielectric grease?

Mine only lasted 35 years. The replacement is going on 10 now. Prolly outlast me.
 
I will agree that if your switch lasts 40+ years it is not crappy. The broken ones that I have seen are indeed crappy. Maybe it is the newer switch replacements as was suggested.
