So, Viking Peashooters at today's exchange rate: $905/pair
Andover Norton Peashooters at today's exchange rate $302/pair USD
When I have them in stock, I sell Wassell Peashooters for $200/pair USD

Does it really make sense to compare them? BTW, I've had no complaints with the current Wassell Peashooters other than that they are VERY loud.

Repetitive? I made a new point about Jap 70's chrome being superior, and poster solving question as to why Seifert repeatedly avoided an answer. Bottom line is that I thought AN was top quality due to their PR. I should have read forum beforehand..

At least 50% of the AN parts I've purchased needed some sort of fettling to work/fit and I've posted about specifics in the past, from body/accessory parts to bolts/nuts. I would much rather find old, original parts, either NOS (preferable) or used in good shape; they always fit perfectly. BUT I will agree that having new parts available, even if they are not as good quality as the original parts, is better than having NO parts available. ;)

Mine don't!
Not to sound unsympathetic to your experience (as I agree your mufflers are trash) , if you feel that A/N is not to your expectations, then go to another vendor (who probably sources their parts from A/N). I am not wed to Joe S., but am wondering why the intense anger? You know
of someone else who is selling better Commando parts and service? Let me know and I will definitely check them out. There are certainly
worse than A/N out there.

You have my sympathies for being infirmed enough that you couldn't ride; in the summer of '014 I hit a pothole at escape velocity (on a Triumph 1050) and couldn't walk for almost 2 weeks, spent the next week curled up on the floor most of the time to keep from screaming out, all I could think of was the riding time I was missing. I don't doubt the expert opinions you received about the nature of the plating on the silencers you purchased. I am sorry that you didn't get the responses you expected from A/N; I, too, have had my issues with some parts I purchased from A/N and experienced a degree of bitter-sweet resolution, but feel confident that the faults I noted, and sent to AN, have been received as feedback that assists in helping them make better parts for our Nortons that are being ridden and cared for by a dying breed of of courageous risk taking individualists.

I admire your tenacity, glad you weren't the IRS agent that audited me (and lost!!!)

5 years?

Time to move on and find new windmills...

Best

Just pointing at that the idol on the pedastal has feet of clay... If AN has iffy standards that don't match the peerless PR, as seems to be the case, I wanted to highlight it. There is too much of this mix about e.g cult of Tesla and quality control issues, such as poor sod burnt to a crisp in desperation as his proud possession didn't have door handles...(Google if you don't believe me). Stuart Garner and ripped off pensioners is on the same spectrum, but a lot farther I admit. I notice that Joe Seifert keeps an eye on the posts and often contributes, but has chosen not to in this case. Though a AN employee seems to have...As to anger, in UK argot, Joe Seifert in evading the issue was taking the piss. Thanks for IRS compliment - I enjoyed Perry Mason as a kid...

AN is also at the mercy of their suppliers. I have have had a few out of spec parts from them and they have made good on most, even on three y.o. fork tubes.

Appreciate your point, but they didn't make good on mine, or even all of yours, from your account. If they have duff parts from rogue suppliers they should spot this before going out the door, or later make amends in every case, not most. In other words, Quality Control department (that isn't a problem with Paul of Viking). I would have been happy with a proper examination of the facts, instead of lame attempts at get-out clauses e.g ocean vicinity, lack of concours condition of bike generally - bike was just assembled for shake-down fettling that didn't happen due to health (cyst in spine)

I am on my second set of chrome Blinker stems that I got from AN. The chrome is pitting and rusting in less than 6mths on the bike. The first set pealed off in under a year. I think I'll get them locally chromed rather than purchase new again. My Mirror stems also have started pitting and flaking in under a year of use also.

I do hope their New exhausts that they have just released are of better chrome quality as I would like a set. :)

I wouldn't risk it...Platers are appalled at AN silencers and my treatment by Joe Seifert, according to private messages. Viking if you can afford them, and if you like the Dommie style down pipes only $500NZ.

Have they changed that you know of? I have a pair that I bought through Old Britts maybe 10 years now. Lovely chrome, smooth welds, not too loud. I paid a lot more than 200 a pair.

There's a very good chance that the ones you bought were Wassell. The last three sets I bought were excellent other than having essentially no baffling.

I don't make a living selling parts - I generally sell for much less than others, especially to those who contact me directly.

I have dealer accounts so I can get the parts for my rebuilds for less - to keep the accounts, I have to buy a lot. I make very little on most things I sell. At $200 for a set of peashooters, I actually make a little money

I got a new centre stand from A/N last season , fit perfect first attempt no issue .... although ,when retracted the foot pad points straight up , which is odd , makes it hard to get good grip with boot as thing is pointed , however compared to what I had ,it is “Great” ! Bike goes up miraculously easy ,very low effort .... just don’t feel righteous complaining ‘bout “the point” , guess I could heat the offending area and give it some bend , was given fair warning from a forum member and thought it would be better and so far it is ....

And what's your opinion on my AN Peashooters, as compared to others Greg?
I haven't bought peashooters from AN. I've recently bought and installed pipes from them and they were excellent quality and fit perfectly. Since I haven't seen your peashooters other than pictures, I can't really comment. I do believe that AN has improved themselves significantly in the past few years. I also think that your chrome should not have peeled if just sitting indoors in a heated environment. However, one cold humid day I opened the door to my heated garage and almost instantly everything was wet - didn't hurt chrome but lots of rust and ugly aluminum casings.

Not to start a fight and not to stereotype, there are people who are short with others who can cause things to get out of hand. There are people at both AN and Amal who are a dream with work with and then there are ones the you need a thick skin to work with. Much like this forum! There are three well known members that are very helpful and knowledgeable but delight in making me upset so I just consider the source and move on.

Having been in the hospital 8 times and having had 5 surgeries since 2012, I understand being sick and away from your bike. IMHO, you should understand that 5 years is too long to wait to complain and possibly a different approach would have helped. I write AN's support guys and provide feedback whenever something is technically wrong - they always come back with something that makes me happy. The same is true on sales issues.

Thanks for reply. As I remember, my first email was civil, but stepped up as I received stonewalling to the point I made about unblemished Viking downpipes, and JS blarney about poor condition of bike, and coastal location. Friend's other bikes didn't suffer. Nor did original chainguard, as perused by Joe Seifert in photo of Peashooter alongside it. But his conclusions were poor maintenance and sea air. Selective... Maybe I've got too much time on my hands as I wait for a stent to drain the cyst, but I think it was the easy option for JS to ignore the above and fob me off. It is something we sometimes encounter in NZ, as regarded as far-flung and not worth bothering with when we receive poor service. Perhaps some are stuck in their previous snail-mail attitudes to this. I bought a reconditioned speedo for my Matchless single from the 'expert' in the UK, and it failed after 50 miles back in NZ. He refused the expense of repair and postage back to NZ until I reminded him of all the ' 'classic' bike mags he advertises in... Metal under removed chrome strip is shiny pinkish tinge

I should say was, as pipe now with local plater, who deemed the chroming "A quick dip on a crap, unprepared base". I sent a photo of the strip he peeled off, all of a micron thick, to JS. No comment from him on how a 4 inch strip could be easily peeled off

If you think it so easy to make high quality parts at reasonable prices for you bike then I suggest you show us how it's done.

But personal attacks should not be tolerated here.
