Andover Norton parts...again

You're not the only one having trouble with the parts, Mike. The biggest problem in my experience has been with fasteners. Anything with a British thread form. On many occasions I've reused old bolts, studs, etc. because the new ones simply did not fit. I send them back now and ask for parts that do fit. The UNF stuff is usually ok.

Like you, all genuine AN parts purchased from a very well-known reputable AN dealer...

It's not just the fasteners, either. One example is the chaincase sealing band, 06-0398. They used to fit perfectly, but the last one I bought was too small in overall diameter. No way it would fit. I had to cut it and splice in a section from the old band.

I'm happy that the parts are available, but concerned that the quality seems to be sliding. I think I will keep track over the next year or so and make a list of everything I bought, what fit, what didn't fit. Then I'll post it up.

Debby,
Sorry to hear about your problem. I have just fitted one of our chaincase bands, on our racer that my youngest daughter then rode, prior to the end-of-September meeting- and it fitted fine.

As for the fasteners I remember having a problem with too thickly plated fasteners a couple of years ago and we addressed the problem in two ways- the iffy fasteners were quarantined, and we introduced a new quality control check where we use master parts that are the corresponding piece on the motorcycles to check new deliveries.

Quality slipping? I don't think so. You should have been around when the original ex-Wolverhampton factory parts were. I remember times when I'd go to the parts bin and try three parts and the fourth would then fit.... That was the "standard" at the time.

Hi ZFD , when you are talking in your index about the 4 speed close ratio , with the gears breaking , could you tell us more , though I know you did not sell any, there are few people making those .........and unfortunatly, I had bought one to fit in my Racer, I am too cheap to buy a Quaife or a TTI.....! but if my life could be in the balance??
So that dealer is one of your dealer?
