FYI for those interested in such:

There’s a ‘How to’ article in the latest edition of ‘Motorcycle Classics’ (July / August edition, maybe it’s not the latest, we seem to get it later over here).

The article cover the AMR mod in detail with words and picture.

Just a step by step ‘how to’ guide for the fitting post AMR mod, with some explanation of how it works etc.

Any "unbiased" (hard to tell, I know!) views as to the wisdom and effectiveness of doing this?

I have the AMR mod. Well worth the cost for NA residents or those sufficiently annoyed by wet sumping to bear the shipping cost.

It reduces wet sumping to an insignificant amount. I would do it again should I come by a Norton without it.

Slick

Anyone who has done this AMR mod on a nice polished cover. How do you prevent cover scratches/marks in the machining process?

Call him, he's a nice guy. Called right after the article and he was very busy. The magazine never gave him notice they were doing the article, this is twice they did this to small service shop. Suddenly swamped with work, that was 2 months age. Should be caught up by now. I plan on giving him two after riding season.

All 4 of my commandos have the mod. No issues. On one of them I didn't have the oprv mod and it will drain down some if it sits long enough. Be sure and have all the mods done.

When I do the mod I clamp on the timing rotor/AAU cover surface, only works for timing covers with provision for points though.

That's odd, I talked directly to him before we ran this article, told him what we were up to and discussed the differences between his modification and the MkIII cover.

My apologies, maybe I misunderstood. Or maybe he didn't realize the date of the article was to run. At any rate he seems to be a straight up guy. I'll still enjoy reading your articles and plan on using AMR this fall

I agree. I really enjoyed talking to him and hearing his take on the wet sumping problem.
