Hi All
Is it feasible to replace the pressed-in pilot jet on an Amal Mk1 Concentric carb?
On examining the pilot jets for blockages on my 1972 750 Commando I found that the jets had been opened such that a 1.5mm drill bit will pass readily through them!
I think this is the likely cause of uneven running.
The carbs are otherwise in fairly good nick with slide, floats, valves, needle and other jets in good condition.
Ideally I'd like to repair them rather than replace.
Are there any instructions available on the best way to remove the old pilot jet and replace with a new one?
I tried searching this and other forums but could not find advice on replacing the jets. I'm ok with drilling and threading for a cut-down air screw as has been suggested but I'm not confident on how to remove the existing jet and replace.
Any advice on this would be much appreciated.
Andy

There is a screw in pilot jet for 2 stokes, as long as your body has the threads you can use one of them.

I have always wondered if it would be possible to install the removable Premier jets into the older body. It looks like it can be done with the right equipment.

Thank you very much kommando for letting me know this line of attack for solving the problem.
Screw-in pilot jet threads are indeed present on my Commando's LH and RH carbs.
So I'll get some new screw-in pilot jets - size 25 seem popular - and presumably just drill out the old pilot bush.

The hole just needs to be 2 big to effect the jetting which is a 17 thou hole, 1.5 mm is 59 thou, drill it out a bit more but you do not have remove it completely.

Yeah, same here!
Here's a portion of a query made to Burlen (no response yet) - if you check the diagram at the link below it appears that the Premier body has an external pilot jet, like a Solex, where the blanking plug is on the Standard body:

"From the online 930 diagrams, reference http://amalcarb.co.uk/carbspec/carburet ... s/id/6411/, it appears that the slides are available for either the “regular” or “standard” 930 body, or the Premier, but that neither the regular nor Premier series body - looks like item 27 in the diagrams, but labeled "Tickler pin" - are available as individual items.

Is this the correct interpretation? And that Pilot Jet 9 is specific to the Premier series, and screws in where the blanking plug would be on a regular or standard body?"

It looks that way to me also. I don't know if they changed the internal passage ways or not. But looking at my Premiere body compared to the old body it seems like it is possible to drill and tap the blanking hole out and screw in the newer jets. Might be a good experiment for some one with buggered up jets and a good drill press to try.
