What size spanner fits the Amal carb banjo bolt? 1/2" across the flats is too small and 9/16" is too large. Similarly, 13mm is too small and 14mm is too large. I can use an adjustable wrench, but I'm curious if there is an actual wrench/spanner that fits properly.

Every Commando owner needs a set of Whitworth spanners and sockets.

1. Was this a question?
As a equipment owner you would do well to have a Imperial(fraction), metric, and BS wrench size chart posted on your work area wall, and a set of calipers for measuring said hardware.
After 30+ years I still make reference to mine...

2. Generally all NEWLY designed for commando parts were imperial/unified. Leaving mainly the engine and gearbox only as holdovers from pre commando design, Therfore the main area for British threads and wrenches. Even a lot of series 1 commando parts that the appearance of featherbed hold over were actually upgraded to unified thread.

Generally would not disagree, however the later the commando, it reduces the amount of old British based hardware use. As is known even the last 75 MKIII had "some" BSW, BSF and cycle threads needing a few British wrenchs and sockets.

Can you recommend a website where I can download a chart showing Imperial, metric and BS wrench sizes? The site LAB gave the link for contains excellent information but isn't suitable for posting on a workshop wall. Thanks.

The 1/4 Whit is pretty common - head bolts, gearbox nuts. And I think the 1/8 Whit fits the small 2BA studs in the points cover.
