Airbox oil fix and ecu upgrade

They cracked my engine in half thinking it was seeping from the crankcase, which really wasnt bad thing. I was burning oil prematurely, changed rings, upgraded the valve covers and all, but still had that damned leak. Even with all the breather upgrades. Called Matt Capri. He told me its commonly misdiagnosed. Change the starter. Voila. Mine is a 2013 but that doesn't mean that O ring on yours didn't go bad. It leaks from behind the starter so its difficult to see where its coming from. Also, there was more wrong with mine than just a leak. It engaged with a loud "whack".

There is a tolerance stack up on some of the units. Bolts too long plus hole too shallow. This is why they leak if you have a transmission vent.

And the Harley starter is not direct replacement. You need to take it apart and rotate a few things. But you have everything you need.
 
For sure. Or do what we do.

we chase a tap thru the holes in the starter. So the bolts don’t bite before the faces tighten.

Its funny because the threads are imperial but bolt head is metric. I think because when kenny designed the bike he used a Harley denso starter because is was readily available, then UK made it all metric but sourced a similar starter and have these strange bolts.

But if you replace the starter the better option is the Harley one. Way better made. But don’t be replacing anything yet. You could chase out the threads and rebuild the solenoid a few time before you’ll need to replace the entire starter.
