- ultrasonic cleaning of carbs and blowing out of all passages
- correcting fuel level on one carb
- and very importantly polishing the rough edges of the stamped out tags on the premier carb floats. These tags can catch on the fuel needle and either flood or starve the carb. This problem has been reported by Norman White and independently identified by an engineer friend of mine.

Ooh interesting! (sorry to derail the thread for a second)

I have a new pair of Amal Premiers sitting in a box until fitment time comes. If I hadn't read this, I would've just bolted them on assuming they were ready to go.

Are you recommending taking a needle file (or similar) to this area..?

Yes that's the issue. There are a few threads around about that. I'll see if I can find them.

One seemed to suggest Amal had identified the issue and corrected it but I'm not certain if that's correct.

The other thing is to check all the passages are clean of swarf and use a 19 pilot jet. The one that screws in from the side. Three rings.

That’s the area yes, burrs around where it was stamped are the potential issue.

Mine are the new alu bodies, so may have had that addressed by Amal, but I'll check that out, thanks for the heads up.

I bought a pair of those last year, a good investment. But I did find the fuel level in the left was different to that in the right, so a bit of float tang bending was required. Very small adjustments make quite large differences to the fuel level in the float bowl. I bought the float bowl adaptor and clear tube kit from AN, made the job easy.
