A friend's son died in a nasty head-on motorcycle crash and his dad is selling several bikes. One is a mid-eighties (he thinks) 250 Yamaha. It's all there so far as I can tell, except for one broken rear turn signal. Tires are good. It's in the back of the shed and it was raining so we didn't drag it out. Dad, an old Indian/Henderson/Harley guy says it smokes some but is not a 2-stroke. Anyone have a rough order-of-magnitude guess what I ought to offer him? He seems to be thinking $1k , 1.5K.

If you look on the steering neck, there is a decal with useful information; year of manufacture, model.

Sorry to hear of the tragedy. šŸ˜ž
The parental grief is immeasurable.
May God give them strength & comfort.

Thanks for the reply all... I don't want to lowball him given the circumstances. It will be some time before he's over the grief -- if ever. I've listened patiently to his recounting the event. It's hard to listen to. Mom seems to be holding up better. It's only 9 months. He was their only child.

I would ck, XT 250 was monoshock with long front suspension $1000 might be a little high but if he's a friend !?!?!? I had a XT 550 it would climb a tree and then pull the stump! 250 from what I recall were down on power, but a great fun bike. They might have been a four valve engine, I know 550's were.

My 500 Matchless is more than I want these days in rough conditions so a 250 might be just the ticket.

If hes a good friend consider asking to hold it for a while...give them more time and let you research some more.
