It most certainly does read oil pressure. Once the pressure drops below 2 psi the light comes on.

If that’s the case, I’d do a mechanical gauge over a electric gauge.

I think the question is whether it provides an analogue (current) output for pressure or simply switches at a predetermined pressure. My money is on the latter.
