850CC Mk3 Engine into a Mk1 Crankcase??

Hello - This may be a really silly question, if it is, please excuse my ignorance. Does any one know if it is possible, or does anyone have any experience putting an 850cc Mk3 Engine, in the earlier Mk1 Crankcase?

You mean a crank not an engine ?

The MK3 crank is wider than the pre MK3, the normal way is to fit the pre MK3 crank and shim it to fit the wider MK3 cases. Going the other way would be a issue as you have to machine 1.5mm or so from each side and the mainshaft on the drive side could be different too as the starter mechanism is there on the MK3.

Thank you for your reply and yes I meant crank. I have a matchless G15 CSR that PO put a Mk3 engine on and the "tie in" to the primary drive casing isn't very clean. and so exploring options. Your reply was very helpful, thank you.
