Gorgeous machine work. That tray would make an excellent mount for the Motogadget mUnit.

Maybe I could machine you something if you wanted, I have been sending parts all over the world since 1998.
Craig, I will send you a PM with a link to my Moto Guzzi thread.

Engine is buttoned up. Distributor installed with new points. I’m waiting for the heads to come back. Front forks rebuilt with FAC dampers. Rear wheel loose laced. Straight-pull spoke hubs are a breeze compared to Norton wheels. The brake disks are off to Truedisk for grinding and drilling.

Thanks for the kind words.

Gearbox bearings and gears in after dinner tonight. Two hours of fiddling/ staring/ fiddling with a 40w covered flashlight in my mouth. I am so privileged to be able to do this.

I’ve never had a Guzzi, was tempted by the Griso once, but it never happened.

But I LOVE these threads. Guzzi engines and gearboxes just look bombproof !!

Indeed. Generous dimensions, and skew-cut gears have ca. 20% more torque capacity than straight-cut gears.

Yes they do look bomb proof, but a bit agricultural! Well they were tractors, originally.

After working on a Norton, the Guzzi is a dream. Metric fasteners and simple, robust assemblies. I also think that the Commando and round case big block Guzzi are two of the prettiest mc motors out there. I’ve never actually ridden a Guzzi so I am having a hard time imagining that it will rev, sound or ride as sweetly as the Commando.

Outside of another Norton a Guzz is the first bike I would snag if a choice morsel showed itself. A Guzzi has all of the smoothness of the old Goldwings without being as bulky feeling..... At least to me. Then GW's were made by Honda car division which explains that in a nutshell... I like driving tractors anyway, so Guzzi fits the craving... Old ones.

Hi Ben - Don’t know how I missed this but I’ve just discovered your Guzzi thread . Impressive ! I’ll be following for sure.

Thanks Rick. I took three steps backwards tonight on the gearbox. I’ll figure it out. How’s the 72 coming.

Waiting on tank , etc. from painter . He thought it might be done mid -April but he is a little behind . Not surprising giving the upside down world we are living in today. I’m awaiting these parts like a kid who gets up on Christmas morning only to be told Christmas is a month away yet...

Scariest part of my build was fitting the newly painted tank. The clearance between the Interstate tank and the handlebars at full lock is about 1/8”. That and pulling the tank every 10 minutes to sort out wire and cable clearances, finding a place to put it down safely etc. I lost the last of my hair.

Hair is a small price to pay. You must at the least ride it once before administering the obligatory first scratch... I did.... and five more. All you can do is your best.
I'm curious about the innards of that trans. Always wondered how the Italians went about it. Type bearings, bushings?
