Hey everyone!
Been lurking on this forum since last April right after my dad gave me his 75 MKIII. Had it shipped from Seattle to Redondo Beach, CA. In all honesty, knew very little about British bikes, but had built a few sport bikes in the past, so I felt up to the task. According to him, it was in ok shape, ran well and just need a few thing. Hmm, the pictures tell another story.. haha. Anyway, it started out with a good motor n gear box, but that's about it
between this forum and Fred and Ella's over at old britts, I've become pretty competent in my build.
Had her for 13 months before finally getting to the point where I could ride her which just happened to fall on July 4th!! I had no idea what to expect with regards to power and handling, but WOW!!! I was hooked from the first time I dropped the clutch and rolled on the throttle!!! Still have a ways to go as the clutch is a touch heavy, isolastics need adjustment or replaced and a few other small details, but over all it's presentable n starts on the first kick. Was hoping to make it out to the Vintage Bike run up in Angels Crest this past weekend, but couldn’t make it this time. Definitely the next one!!
Rebuilt the dual 932 amals completely and I'm glad I did. Was close to swapping for single MIKUNI due to the many claims of being better and more reliable. So far, after I got them dialed, not even professionally, just me, they are crisp n solid... so far. Idles at 1k and can sit at the light with hand off throttle. Handed the hubs over to Robert at Buchanans and ended up going with WM3 18 front with 110/80/18 battlax n WM4 18 rear with 130/80/18 Battlax and they fit perfectly!! Read many posts regarding tire n wheel combos but happy with my choice as I wanted the meatier look with out compromising the performance. I'm 6' 4" 218lbs, so I kept that in mind when choosing the tank, wheels, tires, euro bars, etc. Still need a good set of rearsets.. have an email into RGM so I hope to hear back.
I'll attempt to post pics of before and after. Hope they go through.
Before: hi bars, chopper seat, leaked oil, oil tank mounts broke...
Presentable
