'74 Commando right side plate

I have a 1/4" hole roughly in the center of the right alum side plate. I can tell by the parts book that it is intended to be on the right side only.

Looking at pictures of other Commandos something appears to be bolted there.
My guess is that it could be a speedo cable hold down attach point, but only a guess.
Can someone tell me the purpose. Thank you.

the zener diode was bolted there . the plate was the heat sink.

The ignition makes no difference ,the zener diode is for the charging system only .............baz

Correct.. and I should have said set up for a single phase rectifier-regulator that eliminates both the rectifier and zener diode.
