LAB how do u know all this stuff? can i ask what parts book, info, etc do u use for the 69/70 model? do u have any links????

I've not as yet seen a copy of the 68-70 parts book on the Internet. However if I find anything useful I post it in the "Technical Information Section..." sticky topic. technical-information-section-how-post-photos-t2357.html

Paper copies are available, either published by JR Technical (owned by Andover Norton: http://www.nortonmotors.de/ANIL/Books.htm >Technical Publications>Catalogue-06-3065)

And it's also on the "Kim the CD Man" Norton disc : http://www.nortonmotors.de/ANIL/Books.htm >Technical Publications>Catalogue>Parts Books/Manuals on DVD: Contents list (download) http://www.andover-norton.co.uk/JRP/5th ... 20List.doc

This is the book you want, 81-300018, I think from Old Britts for about $15USD.

69/70 Roadster Oil Tank/Batt Tray Help?

Send them an email and ask if it has the supplements for 69 and 70, R, S, 69 Fastback and 70 Roadster.

OZ, actually I have the book as a pdf file that is a little more than 2 megs. If you send me your email, I'll send it to you.

Dave In OZ where I get my parts from they said that spares book was not available and I only have the 750 parts book for the later model which is a pain when ordering parts and rebuilding. Would I be imposing on your good nature to ask if you could send me a email as well, if not no problem.

Then Dave is wrong, or he just can't be bothered to order it! As that parts book is certainly available from Andover Norton, Norvil and presumably any other good Norton parts supplier.

LAB,

I've always been confused about this Spares List. Is the main part of the book for the 67-68 Commando which looks a lot like the fastback but they didn't call it that? Then in the back I understand the supplements for the R, the S, but then they go into "Spares List for 69 Commando Fastback to be used in conjunction with 68 Cdo spares list"???

Did they just not call the first Commandos fastback, but they looked like that and they started calling it the Fastback in 69 with a few parts changes??
Then there is the list for the '70 all models', I guess the few parts that changed in 70 and then finally the 70 Roadster only, but I notice some of the parts are exactly the same part numbers as the S, like the headlamp brackets.

The first Norton 20M3 Commando model, which we would now refer to as a 'Fastback' was originally just known as a 'Commando'. As I understand it, when the Commando S and R models were introduced, they had to come up with a way to identify the original Commando from the two new Commando models, and as it had got the nickname 'Fastback' which had stuck, so the 20M3 Commando became the Norton Commando Fastback model.

Yes, I don't quite understand that list either?
I've always understood the original '70 Roadster to be an S model with low pipes, so I have no explanation why some S parts should become "common to the '70 Roadster" when a Roadster should already have had them?
