Once you have the front fork done, then wheels and brakes?

Do you have a wiring loom or will you make your own?

Well done! I traded a 66 or 67 round barrel with a friend and now sort of regret it as it is a neat bike. Looks like yours is coming together nicely and you have all the good bits.

What is that abomination on the stock muffler ? I agree in principle with the purists, but must confess that my brothers and I made many " woods " modifications back in the day. Great to see another old Victor will be back running again. Good Pics.
 
That bike is on my bucket list. Man, if I ever get one, I'm sending it to you. Beautiful work.

I want an old thumper. The thumpier the better.

I'm looking for a free breathing hot dog type muffler, have you a source for yours yet?

There is no end play on the crankshaft, the shim is to center the rod, may need it, may not. Once you titen the nut on the timing side, it pulls the crank tight aginst the timing side bearing.

Check the camshaft bushings for wear, the cam gear should not hit the the case. about .004 end play for the cam.

The material is pretty thin in the bearing bore area, by the cam gear. make shure the bearing fits tight in the bore, thet will spin when hot.

I have several of the little BSA singles, when they are assembled carefully and things are right they are fun to ride.

There is no longer a ball bearing on the timing side - the engine has roller bearings on both sides now.
There was plenty of crankshaft endplay. Not anymore though, I shimmed it out.
Endplay is now set at .003.
 
I had not realized you put rollers on both sides, very good.

There are bearings with 10 rollers and 12 rollers, the 12 roller bearings are the best ones.

Mark, probbably alittle late and after the fact, a B50 cast iron oil pump is a much better than the zinc one the B44's came with. They fit with only minor mods to the crankcase.

I too was hoping to see the finished bike.
I run two of these round barrel Victors, one of which is my daily ride to work transport, both are very smooth as they both run JE Pistons which are quite light.
The other is in an Oil in Frame, it has been gas flowed by ED V who is "The" tuning expert on these, has a megacycle mid range cam, twin plugs, NEB multiplate clutch, bigger Alpha big end bearing and Carrilo rod, Black Diamond valves, it does go rather fast.

I still have the bike.
I finished it and rode it a few times. The energy transfer ignition truly SUCKS!, I need to update the charging system and add a battery and electronic ignition.
it's parked right now as I am in the process of building a new shop and all of my tools and projects are packed up.

The pics that I took documenting the build are on my old desktop that is running XP so I can't connect it to the internet anymore.
If I ever find the motivation, I'll update this thread.

You are so right about the energy transfer ignition with its 5% of advance!
When I first bought the bike about 10 years ago, the fella started it first kick from cold so I figured I would be fine, hired a van to bring it back to the van depot and then to ride it home from there, do you think I could start the bugger!, a passing motorcyclist stopped to admire it and got collared into bump starting it.

So first thing I did was put a 3 phase alternator and Podronics on so that the bike was now 12 volts and the lights actually now worked!
Put a Boyer and capacitor on but I found the timing was too advanced at kickover without the battery voltage so I bought a tiny Yuasa burglar alarm rechargeable battery, made a little steel box for it that mounts under the petrol tank, in the space under the frame backbone and above the head steady, it bolts to both via "P" clips and that little battery has lasted years.

The result is that the bike often starts first kick, and really flies with the range of advance it needs, they then become rather pleasant bikes to ride.
